The Wheatley Harbour is located on the north shore of Lake Erie in the Province of Ontario at the western basin about 55 miles east of Windsor, On and Detroit, Mich. Wheatley Harbour is near the eastern base of Point Pelee. The harbour is home to the largest freshwater commercial fishing fleet in the world with approximately 45 fishing tugs.
Wheatley Harbour is a non-profit corporation. The executive for 2015 are President - Todd Loop, Directors - Claudio Adragna, Paul Adragna, Frank Baptista, Gerry Hatt, Willy Cronheimer, Jeff Bowman, Steve Derbyshire and Jack Liddle. Al Matthews is the Harbour Manager.
The harbour has a launch ramp for pleasure craft that is well protected from the open lake. From May 5 to Labour Day these waters provide ample opportunities for World Class Recreational Fishing. Starting with the mouth watering yellow perch in May and then continuing on at the end of June the Steelhead (Rainbow Trout) arrive and provide about 7 weeks of great fishing. During this time you can also catch loads of Walleye (Yellow Pickerel) to satisfy your appetite. Bass are also available.
The daily ramp fee is $12 in and out or a seasonal pass can be purchased for $140. The harbour also has a large parking lot for vehicles and boat trailers. Recreational berthage is available on a first come basis. Rates are as follow: Daily: $1.25/ft. +HST, Monthly: $12/ft. +HST, and Seasonal: $33/ft. + HST. Hyrdo hookup is an additional cost per usage.
